If you are trying hard to conceive, but you have had little luck, it is time for you to reconsider what you should do. One third of the couples will go to see a fertility specialist and hope to help for getting pregnant. The other two thirds will sit back and try to decide what they should do. Often the next step is looking into the kinds of tests that can be done to figure out where the problem is. Since they do not want to see a doctor they will often turn to the local drug store to see if they have a fertility test that they can try. Some of them are predicting tests and some of them are diagnostic tests. People want to know what is preventing them from conceiving.

It is always best if a woman who chooses to try some of these tests is certain she has a regular cycle. The most common type of fertility test is the ovulation prediction test. It uses test strips that use the first thing in the morning urine from a woman to determine certain levels in the body. When these levels become higher that is the sign that a woman is fertile. These test kits are not cheap, the monitor can cost well over a hundred dollars and the strips are as high as fifty dollars per cycle. But for many, these costs are worth the price to help them get pregnant.

For men, the fertility test done most often involves the number of sperm a man has. If there are not at least twenty million per millimeter, then it will be difficult for a woman to get pregnant if her partner only has a lesser amount. The other problem is that the number of sperm is not the only thing that must be tested and these cannot be done at home since a man must also be tested for motility and for the shape of the sperm if he is trying to get his partner pregnant.
