The Home Fertility Test

When a couple has been trying to conceive a child, but has been unable to do so, the need for a fertility test is apparent. Fortunately, there is now an option other than both partners having to schedule appointments and go through fertility testing. The home fertility test is now a reality.

There are actually several different variations of the home fertility test on the market today. Some of the home tests are geared for females, while others are designed specifically for males. In other situations, the home test kits include material for both genders. While the kits are not inexpensive, they do tend to be cheaper and certainly easier than going into a clinic for a series of tests.

For men, the home fertility test requires a semen sample. The sample can be applied to a stick that is not unlike the sticks that are used for measuring blood sugar. The process of conducting the test usually takes no more than an hour and a half to produce results. Essentially, the fertility test for men makes sure that the sperm count is high enough that the male is capable of fathering children.

Obtaining a sample of follicle stimulating hormone from the cervical mucus tests the fertility of women. FSH is a prime indicator of the presence of conditions that are ideal for fertilization. The goal is to determine if the woman currently has a level of FSH that is proper for conception. Like the testing for men, the home fertility test for women can produce a reading in less than two hours.

While the home fertility test is relatively new, it already has a number of supporters. However, it is important to note that negative results do not mean that the couple is doomed to never having children. The fertility test simply indicates the presence of some factors that are inhibiting the ability to product children. More extensive testing under the direction of a medical practitioner will provide additional data that will help determine if the factors are permanent or may be overcome with proper treatment.
