Why Keep a Fertility Chart?

Keeping a fertility chart is one way to keep track of when you are most likely to conceive. This is useful not only if you are interested in becoming pregnant, but can also be very helpful if you are trying to avoid getting pregnant. This is especially true if there are other factors that make your chances of getting pregnant higher than usual. This could include nursing your new baby or being pre-menopausal and having recently gone off the pill. There are many websites where you can find these charts and download them for free to help you keep track of your cycle.

It is suggested that the best way to use a fertility chart is to have other things along with it to help with the process of predicting a woman’s peak fertile time. These various tools are also available on the websites, sometimes on the same ones and other times you will have to search for them. Most of the other fertility tools are not free. Still there are methods that can be used that do not cost a lot and are good companions to these charts. They include taking your basal body temperature in the mornings. If a woman takes her temperature before she gets out of bed she should be able to track the slight rise that occurs on the day of ovulation. Her temperature can go up by a half to three quarters of a degree at this time.

As well, a woman should track the changes in the cervical mucus. As she approaches her fertile period, it will change from being cloudy and sticky to clear and slippery. When these changes have been noted on the fertility chart a woman should be able to increase her chances of conceiving or establish a good system to prevent pregnancy. But, this system of charting can only work for women who have regular monthly cycles that are no more than thirty two days apart.
